National Bullying Prevention Month: A Beating Heart, A Beautiful Soul

This month is National Bullying Prevention Month. In honor of it I want to first share with you words that I read in a picture by an anonymous, caring soul, told to lift everyone’s spirits who have been knocked down by bullies: “Darling, Open your eyes. You are not made up of those words that hurt you. Or that number on that scale. Or the expectations you feel you will never meet. You are made up of nothing more than you. Simply, beautiful, wonderfully, uniquely you. You are a lovely and complex soul. An individually fascinating combination of thoughts, ideas, feelings, emotions. No other is as beautiful as you. Look past the mirror. Look at your soul. Only then you will see yourself as you truly are. Beautiful. So smile and don’t forget to love yourself.”

One common form of bullying is done by girls, to girls. I want every girl or woman reading this to know that you carry a beautiful soul inside yourself. You are worthy of only greatness. As females we possess so much pressure to look a certain way, act a certain way, and be a certain way. Society has put us in this box filled with ways they wish and hope for us to be and rather than people just accepting us for who we are, they still have this desire for us to be who we are not. As Oscar Wilde said, “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.” Don’t listen to people who tell you to be another person. Always be your own person, your own beautiful self. If we continue to wear masks on our face we will forget who we really are. It’s time to lift that mask up over your head, smile, and say “I am the best version of me. I am unique. I am me.”

With it being a month dedicated to preventing bullying, think about all the positive things in your life, all the smiles you have accomplished, all the strength you have gained. All this proves that you are a true warrior, someone that pushes through difficult paths in life and comes out stronger than ever. if you have your doubts, think about a quote by musician Andy Six, “Life isn’t about how popular you are…What girl or boy you are dating or who you know. Life is about always being true to who you are or what you believe in. Never let anyone convince you that their way is better than your way. In the end all we have is our hearts…and our minds. This is the reason we sing…this is the reason we cry…this is why we live.” Our own hearts, our own minds, that’s why you are unique. That’s what makes you special. That’s what makes you, you. So the next time you feel like millions of people are telling you what you cannot do, listen to yourself and your inner voice saying “You can do it!” Now do the following, your own voice telling you what to do: “Place your hand over your heart. Feel that? That’s called purpose. You’re alive for a reason. Don’t forget it.” (Quote found on Tumblr by anonymous).
